Deliverables

Achieve a Well Abandonment

Year

2005

Focus is the goal

Country: Gabon – West Africa
Field
Well:
Stage of Well : WELL ABANDONMENT
Identification of problem:
Provide a gas tight seal as a long term solution during well abandonment, reducing corporate liability and potential environmental impact, utilizing the Squeeze CRETE and GasBLOCK technologies. This concept of using this technology had previously been proven in a laboratory environment but had yet to be field tested in an actual well.

Issues to overcome:
Conventional Well Abandonment with the dual production casing left in hole. Initial Well Integrity issue observed in the production casing. The pay Zone was deemed depleted but the risk was still present to generate gas leakage, pressure build and temperature increase.
Conventional GasBLOCK cement slurry have been used for this purpose in another well but failed to provide a true, long term seal that is non-corrosive, gas tight and/or compatible with all downhole fluids and gasses.

Application
02 Squeezze CRETE slurries seals were run in multiple wells all set inside 4.5” tubing.

3 different wellbore temperatures

3 different well deviations

Outcome/Conclusion:
Tools were deployed, set and pressure tested successfully. The Squeeze CRETE and GasBLOCK technologies were proven to be successful beyond a laboratory environment.
